Aging story 1
Art Youmans, “Nutrients That Defy Aging,” 23 October 2018
Nutrients work as a team.
Combining vitamins & minerals creates a protection system for your body greater than the sum of its parts. Working synergisticly,, 2 + 2 can equal 5.
Combining nutrients can delay aging in the following ways: It reduces free radicals that damage your cells & DNA. It slows you getting inflammation which creates disease in your body. It normalizes your reaction to insulin sensitivity (doesn’t wear out your pancreas) It helps preserve cell-to-cell communication, Supports your mitochondria to sustain your energy, and: Reverses cognitive decline.
Since mice & guinea pigs have digestive systems similar to humans, they are used as “guinea pigs” to see how their bodies respond to vitamins & minerals supplementing a healthy diet.
In the event that you’re interested, mice & guinea pigs live about 2 years, compared to about 80 years for humans.
The results were dramatic as the mice lived 11% longer with vitamins & minerals than the control group which received no supplements. For a human, that would be the equivalent of an extra 8 to 10 years of life. I personally consider Vitamins B-complex, C, D & E plus Minerals magnesium, melatonin & selenium as my favorites that I take daily. Overall, I take close to 50 total vitamin & mineral pills daily & have done so for many years. You could also consider a natural (not synthetic) multivitamin including many of the supplements listed below.
My body has greatly weakened over the years, but dementia has been kept away, for which I’m grateful that the nutrients I take with each meal have helped keep my brain protected from Father Time, up to the present time.
A chart with some recommended nutrients is shown, below:
I take about 3 out of 4 of the recommended natural (not synthetic) supplements listed. I buy 99% of my natural supplements online & save about 40% to 50% over what a local store would charge me I buy most of my vitamins & minerals online at vitacost.com, swansonvitamins.com, puritanspride.com. & lifeextension.com
And by the way, there are other, excellent supplements that didn’t make this list. These are just the basics – the ones you really need. With just a couple of exceptions (CoQ10 and alpha lipoic acid, for example) most of them are inexpensive vitamins and minerals.
Supplement Dosage Vitamin B complex 50mg/day Vitamin D3. 1,000 IU//day Vitamin E 200 IU/day Acetyl l-carnitinec Alpha-lipoic acid Beta carotene 50.0 IU/day Bioflavonoids Chromium picolinate Cod liver oil teasoon/day CoEnzyme Q10 DHEA Flax seed oil Folic acid Garlic, Ginger, Gingko biloba, .Ginseng (Canadian),Green tea extracts Magnesium, Melatonin 3 hours before bedtime, N-Acetyl cysteine, Potassium, Rutin,,Selenium & Zinc
Notes: Vitamin brands used in the studies were as follows: a = Cell Life; b = Jamieson vitamins; c =Jarrow Formulas; d = Lifebrand; e = Natural Factors; f = Naka; g = Promatrix; h = Swiss vitamins; i =Vitamin Power Inc.; DHEA = dehydroepiandrosterone.

Aging Story 2
Art Youmans, “Aging,” 17 October 2017
There is a great deal of medical research that shows inflammation (inside your body), especially low level inflammation, accelerates normal aging. Inflammation is your body’s response to acute stresses like infection, fever or injury.
I think of inflammation as a mild case of poison ivy inside my body…in my arteries & veins, on my organs, in joints as arthritis etc. Chronic (continuous) inflammation damages organs like the brain & kidneys, so, if you’re smart you’ll take steps to avoid inflammation if you want a problem-free old age (e.g. over 70-years old.).
Below are eleven common causes of inflammation in the human body:
Pesticides Herbicides (Roundup) Fungicides Industrial chemicals Excessive heat Trauma Fluoridation of drinking water Mercury vapor in the air (e.g. coal-powered power plants send 48,000 tons of mercury into the air every year in the USA. Hope you don’t live near a coal-powered plant.) Aluminum in the air & water (e.g. Some fluoride dumped into drinking water is waste products from aluminum plants, like Alcoa.) A poor diet (e.g. the typical Western junk food diet, overloaded with protein, lacking enough vegetables) & enough water (not soda or booze) to keep the brain from shrinking. The creepy chemical, Triclosan, an ingredient in anti-bacterial soap & toothpaste that absorbs through the skin into the bloodstream, eventually combining with the antibiotics in the meat you eat to create antibiotic resistant bugs in your body. Toss out any anti-bacterial soap in your home. Regular soap is just as good to use. (SOURCE: Studies at University of Chicago, Stanford & Cornell)
Although Triclosan was finally banned in 2016, it is still used in shampoos & other skin products. Check your labels. I am an example of someone who has antibiotic resistant bugs in his body. I have a serious case of bacterial Cellulitis on my right leg that is resistant to all antibiotics I’ve been taking for the past 15 weeks. Cellulitis looks like poison ivy on my leg, including the itching & blistering. There are about 26 antibiotics & so far, the Wound Clinic at Tulsa’s Hillcrest Medical Center has been unable to find one that will cure this bad case of what looks like Cellulitus. Each week, they try a different blend of treatment. Last week they suggested Colloidal Silver applications to the leg & the use of a compression stocking. I am extremely concerned, since the right leg is the only one I have. 62 years ago, in the Army, I was over 6-foot 1/4 inch tall. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life as a 3-foot+ tall midget, so I plan to do all that Hillcrest Medical Center docs suggest to preserve the leg. In the event that you’re curious, I am not diabetic, but, apparently have too much inflammation in my body.
Example: You are admitted to the hospital with a case of bacterial pneumonia. The hospital will inject you with massive doses of antibiotics. You are resistant to all 26 of them, because of using products with Triclosan & eating meat products with antibiotics in them. Hours later you are dead without having the opportunity to reach the goal of getting to the century mark.
Besides inflammation, these things can also tear down our bodies as we age: Infections (like Cellulitis) Stress (both physical & mental) Lack of sleep (Get at least 7 hours/night. 8 hours is better.) Deficiencies in nutrients (SUGGESTION: Take natural, not synthetic vitamins) Genetic disorders
Some folks, like me, take daily natural anti-inflammatory pills (from the health food store) of Curcumin & Resveratrol. Others take aspirin, Advil, Aleve or a prescription drug. I prefer the cheaper, health food store solution to every medical problem. In my opinion, herbal extracts, like Curcumin & Resveratrol prevent inflammation, whereas aspirin, Advil, Aleve or prescription drugs treat mainly the symptoms. Maybe, if I didn’t take this stuff, I’d have died long ago or my brain would be mush, instead of being an active, inquiring brain, excited with the future & focused on passing on knowledge to you that could prolong your life & prevent you from making the same mistakes in life that I have.
Natural ingredients, like Curcumin & Resveratrol cannot be patented, so they are slandered & ignored by Big Pharma with whom they compete. Big Pharma helps fund the U.S.’s 172 medical schools, which have adopted Big Pharma’s bias against natural cures, even if they work. These medical schools have turned your doctor into a drug-prescription machine (AKA drug pimp.).
We’ve discussed telomeres briefly in past weekly e-mails. They are important enough for further discussion.
Telomeres are the caps on the end of strands of DNA called chromosomes & they prevent the DNA from unraveling, like the plastic caps on your shoelaces keep the ends from shredding.
Early in life, an enzyme called telomerase replaces bits of telomeres eroded by free radicals & other attackers. However, as adults, our cells contain little or no telomerase. (Those who live to 100 might have about only 35% of the telomerase they had at 30.) Like a computer, programed for no more than about 100 years, our body’s defenses become weaker & weaker as parts of our body slowly die as we age. Each year, after about age 30, your immune system becomes less protective. A harmful lifestyle also takes years from your life. For example, cigarette smoking takes an average of 5 years off your life. A common cold that could make you cough & sniffle for a few weeks when you’re 30 could turn into pneumonia & kill you when you’re 80 or 90.
The loss of telomeres can be slowed considerably by taking antioxidants, daily or more often, like vitamin A, C, & E plus melatonin (I take 20mg of melatonin 3 hours before bedtime) & an amino acid tablet (that the body converts to glutathione.).
Always remember that steps you take today, in the present, influence how your health will be tomorrow, in the future.
Aging can be slowed down. And the only person who can do the slowing-it-down is YOU !

Aging Story 3
Art Youmans "Books" "Grow Young with HDH"(Human Growth Hormone) 24 May 2016
Since"Grow Young with HGH," by Dr. Ronald Klatz was published in 1997, little has been heard about a hormone named Human Growth Hormone (HGH), which has been medically-proven to reverse the effects of aging, strengthen the immune system, improve sexual performance & lower blood pressure & cholesterol. HGH (which is also called somatotropin) is naturally-produced in the anterior pituitary gland in the brain. HGH, containing 191 amino acids, peaked in your body during adolesence when you grew into an adult.
The hypothalmus,, another gland in the brain, tells the pituitary how much HGH to secrete. A lack of HGH can result in dwarfism, while an excess can result in your being an NBA center or an 8-foot giant in the circus. Unfortunately, once you reach maturity, about age 21, your pituitary gland secretes 14% less HGH each decade. By age 40, you begin to age quickly.
By age 60, you have lost about 70% of the HGH secretions your body had at age 21. By age 80 your immune system is weak from little protection from the HGH hormone that protected it when you were young. Do you recall Ponce De Leon's quest for a fountain of youth in Florida, a few centuries ago?
De Leon was looking for something that slowed down or reversed aging like HGH has been proven to do in the 1990s. Since HGH is a natural substance & can't be patented, Big Pharma has suppressed information on HGH, so they can shove their expensive, synthetic drugs with side effects down the American public's throat.
I would never recommend taking a HGH injection of a Big Pharma synthetic HGH drug because of these documented side effects: Hypertension, Leukemia, Insulin resistance, Development of antibodies to HGH, Carpal Tunnel, Water retension etc.
HGH is hard to measure because it is secreted by the pituitary gland in pulses mostly while you are sleeping at night. The easiest way to measure your growth hormone (HGH) is to measure IGF-1 levels in your blood plasma.
Anything under 350 IU is considered a deficiency of HGH. (SOURCE: "HGH Age-Reversing Miracle," by Rita Elkins, M.H., 1988, p.15) If you ever measure your IGF-1 levels, & decide that you want to reverse your body's aging cycle, do it naturally, not synthetically. Historically, synthetic Big Pharma drugs usually have serious side effects
. I'm interested in HGH stimulating natural formulas that not only target growth hormone but release & step up production of other hormones like DHEA, melatonin, thyroxin & testosterone. Hopefully, my doctor or a nutritionist can assist me in finding this natural formula which could include Dopamine, Tribulis terrestris, and amino acids L-Arginine, Ornithine alpho-ketoglutorate (ORG), Glutamine& Gamma Aminobutyric acid (GABA).
I'll be looking for a powdered drink formulation from a reputable company that does not contain artificial sweeteners, fillers or preservatives. I'll drink this formulation just prior to bedtime. I believe that using this nutrient formula to coax the pituitary gland to secrete more HGH will be effective & safe in keeping my body young. Maybe, I'll even see my thinning hair grow back on my head. :)
A year ago, I took a telomere blood test to determine how much longer my chromosomes would protect my immune system. This $180 blood test indicated that the telomeres on each end of my chromosomes would be gone when I was 89 years old, so then my immune system would be more vulnerable to disease. Perhaps HGH supplementation can give me a disease-free life long beyond the 89 years indicated by the 2015 telomere blood test
. What the heck! It never hurts to try
